Highest precision and long-term repeatability

Reliable, reproducible measurement results over the entire service life of the system.

Safe operation

No need to reach between wheel and rail by hand. The measurement is taken safely and ergonomically, directly on the wheel.

Completely wireless solution

Wireless communication between sensor and tablet for maximum freedom of movement and an efficient measurement process.

Proven durability

Rugged design for daily use in the railway environment. Many systems have been operating successfully for over 10 years.

Customised solutions

Individual adaptations of sensor, mounting bracket and software are possible even from a quantity of 1.

MEASUREMENT TASKS

Wheel profile measurement

Working from the inspection pit beneath the rail vehicle, the operator conveniently positions the measuring device on the wheel, where powerful magnets hold it securely in place. The measurement is started directly from the user software on the tablet and is completed within a few seconds. The magnets are then easily released with a hand lever, and the device can be removed from the wheel in no time.

Diameter measurement

Using a magnetic reference piece positioned on a defined inner or outer edge of the wheel, OPTIMESS WP calculates the wheel diameter directly from the wheel profile measurement. This simple method enables highly precise diameter determination with low sensitivity to flange wear. All it requires is a suitable reference feature on the wheel with sufficiently tight manufacturing tolerances.

Back-to-back distance measurement

The optional measurement module for determining the back-to-back distance is fully integrated into OPTIMESS WP. An extendable electronic measuring tape records the inside distance between the inner wheel faces quickly and with high precision. An integrated laser cross helps position the tape exactly and minimises angular errors.

The complete measurement, from extending the tape through data acquisition to retraction, takes only a few seconds. There is no need for bulky measuring bars or additional reference parts. The result is a fast, ergonomic and process-reliable measurement with maximum accuracy.

An optional reference assembly is available for regular checks of the measuring system. It allows a simple functional check on site and gives you greater independence and process reliability in daily use.

  • Track gauges 1435 mm and 1000 mm available, others on request
  • Excellent accuracy of +/- 0.1 mm
  • Safe operation thanks to Class 1 laser
  • Fully integrated, no additional tools required

APPLICATION SOFTWARE

OptiWheeler

The measurement program makes it easy to record individual wheels, axles or entire trains. The profile is displayed live during the measurement. The profile values are available as soon as the measurement ends and are colour-coded according to the previously defined tolerances. This allows a simple assessment immediately after the measurement.

The program guides the measurement of an entire train with a clear graphical display, so a single press of a button is all it takes to trigger the next measurement. At the end, a complete measurement report (PDF) and the measurement data are available for export.

Operating device

The OptiWheeler software runs on almost any Windows-based device from Windows 7 upwards. For mobile data acquisition and evaluation, we can supply our standard device on request: a rugged Durabook Windows 11 tablet built for industrial use. Its performance, ergonomics and available accessories, such as shoulder straps or docking stations, are ideally matched to use with OPTIMESS WP.

Equivalent conicity

This software module extends the OptiWheeler user software to calculate equivalent conicity in accordance with DIN EN 15302 or UIC 519. Rail profile, inclination and spacing can be freely selected and stored as a track type. Calculation, display and tolerance monitoring take place in real time
